The kitchen may be the heart of any home, but as with any dealings with the heart, it also carries great potential for conflict, especially with two cooks in the family and only so much floor space. This renovation called for abundant storage and the addition of a small breakfast area, while still creating a highly functional and beautiful kitchen. We designed the cabinetry with an eye toward Shaker simplicity and efficiency, giving one of the freestanding units a circular extension to serve as a table, complete with garden view. The clients are now cooking together in domestic bliss, and are looking forward to having Flavin Architects redesign other important rooms as well.
