Bogle Brook House
Sited on a sloping lot near a natural spring, original architect J. Robert Wolf Jr, designed this 1959 butterfly-roof home as a floating treehouse. Despite being only a few miles from downtown Wellesley, this home’s indoor-outdoor connection is unmatched. Inspired by the original vision for the home and property, our interventions sought to bring new life to this existing midcentury modern home through adding a guest suite, expanding the deck, installing efficient mechanical systems, and increasing storage including for outdoor gear.
We took the original vision of a floating light box to inspire a new exterior paint scheme that emphasizes the roofline, beams, and suspended quality of the structure. The new material selections including File Clay tile, slate countertops in the kitchen, and terrazzo floors for the bathroom were selected to match the existing mahogany paneling.
This split-level home is divided into 4 subfloors, creating an entry circulation that allows you to climb up into the main public spaces of the home. The dramatic ribbon stair and key holes in the mahogany walls are playful architectural gestures to ask you to look through the home and beyond into the tree canopy.

We interviewed a pool of architects before choosing Flavin. From the beginning, the Flavin team understood the uniqueness of our home and our vision for our treehouse. They prepared designs that look natural to the original structure and the property, and were thoughtful and artistic in capturing the essence of this special place.Homeowner
Moreover, they were present throughout the whole build process, partnering closely with us and with the general contractor every step of the way. We are thrilled with the outcome and so pleased with our decision to work with this phenomenal team.
